A hard reset, also known as a forced restart, restores your iPhone to its default settings and can help resolve various issues.
Here are some reasons why you would want to hard reset your iPhone:
- Your apps are glitching or malfunctioning.
- Your iPhone is lagging or running slowly.
- Your apps are unresponsive.
Note: This article goes over how to hard reset an Iphone, which is often confused with a factory reset. A hard reset, or forced reset, restarts your iPhone without erasing any data to help fix minor issues or bugs. A factory reset erases all data and settings to restore the iPhone to its original state.
Perform a hard reset on your iPhone
For iPhone 8 or later:
- Press and release the volume up button.
- Press and release the volume down button.
- Press and hold the power button until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then release the button.
The power button is found on the side of your iPhone and is on the opposite side of your volume controls.
For iPhone 7 and 7 Plus:
The power button is found on the side of your iPhone and is on the opposite side of your volume controls.
2. Keep holding both buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then release the buttons.For iPhone 6s and earlier:
- Press and hold both the home button and the power button simultaneously.
- Continue holding both buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then release the buttons.
